The QY Factory Story
QY Factory is a Canadian-Chinese venture that began many years ago.
The Bug Zapper Story
In the early 2000´s Mark saw zappers being tested at check-out in Asian retail stores. He inquired about this, as it seemed strange. The teller explained that zapper quality was so bad, that they tested them before selling them. They offered no zapper warranty once it left the store.
Invented in the 90´s in China, the first generation zappers were low powered and did not function well. A brilliant idea, poorly executed.
Over the next year Mark checked many zapper manufacturers and eventually ran into Jim in Dongguan GD, China. He was a zapper specialist and the rest is history.
Since that day Mark and Jim have produced reliable and powerful zappers and slowly the reputation for this product has improved. They now can be powerful enough to kill mosquitoes and kill or stun larger flies & wasps. In 2024 we added lower powered well priced zappers produced with our partners.

The Sky Lantern Story
The “Original” Fire Retardant was invented in 2005 in Shijie, Dongguan, GD PRC. Since the day we invented these new lanterns, the fire-retardant sky lanterns have become an established trend in the West. From top quality fast rising lanterns to the cheap less safe copies being pushed on uninformed buyers. Today nearly everyone in the West now knows this item.

The Nostalgic Coffee Maker story
Perk vacuum Coffeemakers were invented around the turn of the century. High end Coffee houses have used this process for over a century and this process is now making a resurgence with the general public.
In 2008 we partnered with a local firm and have been marketing these to our UK client.
Decorative Lanterns Story
In 2007 we started producing Candle Lanterns also known as Luminaire Candle Bags. These have been used for years especially at Christmas and Halloween. They have also been used for fundraisers for years.
Simply open the bag, weigh them down with sand or stones and place a tealight or LED tealight inside. Our various designs and sizes are suited for indoor or outdoor use.
In 2007 we also make floating lotus flowers made of paper. Ideal for ponds, or around the yard, these were used in wedding or yard decor
Also in 2007 we started carrying traditional round lanterns.

When and What we have started:
Since 2003 (when I first met Jim Liu, the founder of QY Factory), we have slowly built an extensive distribution network.
#1 Monster Seller - Our Bug Zapping Rackets are selling in many markets and our Max Smekker brand even became the generic name for zappers in Norway.
#2 Monster Seller - Sky Lanterns is also a name we coined in 2005-2006 when these lanterns were referred to as Khom Loi and Kongming Deng. We made the first Fire-Retardant Sky Lantern in 2006 and this was the main factor in the industry’s success.
Patented "Folding Ring" lanterns brought down local shipping costs. Throw in metal-free string lanterns were patented by us as well.
Innovations - Extra safe, fully enclosed lanterns were introduced. Sparkling lanterns with magnesium sparks trailing was another innovation.

Where
China is our first production base. It still the world’s strongest producer and with its infrastructure, it will likely remain that way for a long time to come. The thrill of producing goods for the world is never lost in the manufacturing centers. In places like Dongguan, this energy exists at every corner, every factory, and every facet of this industrialized society. China is quickly becoming the cornerstone of innovation and progression.

Mexico since 2015 has been a growing manufacturing center for our company. It continues to grow with new product offerings.
